Last September the magazine team were delighted to meet up with Spun Candy UK Business Development Manager Paula Tatchell, pictured right, to help in the launch of a brand new Covent Garden business. Their business concept is hand crafted bespoke hard rock candy created in an open retail kitchen. We were convinced this was going to be a winner when we saw the candy being created in front of our eyes and loved the authentic fruity flavours. We were so excited when we saw our very own In and Around Covent Garden candy, we decided to put them on the front cover.

But selling from the store is only a small part of their business. Catching up with Paula last month she was keen to update us on all their news. A major part of their marketing strategy is creating bespoke candy for the corporate market and this side of the business is really taking off. They have worked with a number of major brands including Lulu Guinness, Yves Saint Laurent, Ted Baker, Estée Lauder, Burt’s Bees, Virgin Atlantic and Qantas. Pretty impressive so far. Recently they agreed to supply branded candy for the Rugby World Cup 2015, to be sold from their flagship store in the market building.

Now they are looking to expand abroad, exploring many different franchise opportunities. Their first franchise opens in Dubai in August, closely followed by Abu Dhabi at the end of the year.

Paula shared her thoughts on joining the In and Around Covent Garden business development association.

"The In and Around Covent Garden magazine, networking events and team were invaluable to us when we opened last September. We were delighted to create a new style of cover and look for their October magazine and we have been regular attendees at the networking events, making excellent contacts who have generated some great business for us. Lynn is all about connecting the local businesses and promoting them wherever she can.

We are looking forward to celebrating our first birthday with the members at a networking event in September. We would recommend any business in the area to get involved, this is where the ‘In Crowd’ are."
